Vaginal Steaming
What is Steaming?
Vaginal steaming is a natural, non-invasive practice that utilizes herbs to nourish and cleanse the reproductive organs, balance the vaginal flora, improve scent, tone, and skin, and alleviate issues with menstruation, ovarian cysts, uterine weakness, and infertility. Steaming has been used for centuries. Traditionally, this practice is used by midwives as a postpartum aid. It is also a great self-care tool for maintaining good vaginal health.
How to Steam
Before steaming, prepare your healing space by turning on lovely music, lighting candles and/or incenses, choosing some stones and setting any intentions for an exceptional steaming experience.
You will need a pot, (optional: bowl), a blanket, and a chair that allows access to the pubic region.
Simmer 1 tablespoon of herbs in 3/4 cups of water (spring water preferably) for 10-15 minutes with a lid on.
Once steam is warm, place your steam pot under a seat with an opening (i.e. steam chair, stool, or lawn chair). You could also pour steam water into a ceramic bowl to avoid burning the floor.
Test the heat of the steam with your hand.
DO NOT PROCEED IF STEAM IS HOT. Please avoid burning yourself.
Remove all clothing from the waist down.
Sit down, making sure that the steam can reach the vagina and perineum.
Cover your waist with a blanket so that steam does not escape.
Sit over the steam for 15-20 min.
This is a great time to meditate and connect with your womb. We provide a tumbled Carnelian to assist you in this process as it stimulates the Sacral Chakra and regulates the reproductive system. Carnelian brings a stronger sense of self-confidence, perceptiveness, and creativity. This stone is possibly the most effective stone for increasing passion and sensuality. Carnelian is used to increase fertility and helps with conditions of the reproductive system including menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome, and low libido to name a few.

After your steam is complete, we suggest pouring the herbs outside in the grass or soil to say thank you to Mother Earth for her contribution to your health.
When to Steam
For maintaining optimal vaginal health, steam 1 week before menstruation, immediately after menstruation, before sexual intercourse, and after sexual intercourse.
For gynecological issues, use as frequently as necessary (up to 5 times per week)
For postpartum care, contact your doula or midwife for specific instructions.

What to Expect
Every woman is different. Discharge is a normal outcome. You may experience a change in flow, duration, and discomfort during menstruation. And if you feel any irritation, please consult your primary healthcare provider and discontinue use if necessary.
